Google Drive launched today

My initial impressions:

• No direct download links (+1 for DropBox)
• Easier to “Get Link” in DropBox
• Can’t sync a folder on my tablet to it (need to use FolderSync - but be careful when you do) (+1 to SugarSync)
• Cheap(ish) (If DropBox had cheaper prices it would make the decision harder)

But enough for me to make the switch? Not just yet. How about you?

Install process and initial impressions

• Both the printer install and software install took about 15 minutes each
• Small ink cartridges
• Don’t use the CD to install - just installs a lot of rubbish - go to the Canon website and search for the drivers. (Though the one I used didn’t come with scanner drivers, will track these down later)
• Carrying on from above - you shouldn’t need to go searching for drivers, it’s 2012! You should be able to just open Control Panel and click “Install”.
• So much plastic! 

• Not bad
• Duplex printing is great
• The UI on the printer (the buttons and screen etc) isn’t very nice to use
• Uses more ink than initially expected and photos weren’t turning out great by default, but with a bit of tweaking was pretty good.
• A week later - two cartridges are almost empty. Whoa!

Will update after a bit of time using it.

Recently I purchased a Microsoft Touch Mouse to replace my standard wireless mouse.

First impressions (after 15 minutes):

• The two and three finger gestures for snapping and minimising etc work well, but occasionally pick up normal movement as these gestures.
• No middle click?

Hey.

So my university is intending on shutting down around three courses in the College of Arts - Theatre & Film, American Studies, and Cultural Studies. Want to know why this is ridiculously uncool?

1. My friend, Dannielle, takes Theatre & Film and American Studies as her major and minor. If these courses are wiped out, her entire degree is pretty much gone.
2. Not only Dannielle, but hundreds of other students are going to lose their degree as well. They have the choice of staying in Christchurch and doing other subjects that will still get them their degree, or go elsewhere and finish their degree in another city.

Guess what. Dannielle doesn’t really want to move. I don’t really want her to move.

What I’m getting at is this - if you guys can all GO HERE and sign the petition to keep the College of Arts running, it would be fantastic. You don’t have to be from New Zealand to sign it, and it would mean so much if you guys could!

So, instagr.am for Android is now available on Play. But I feel like they’ve just taken the iOS version and ported it to Android. Not following?

Take a look at the foursquare app:
In iOS - itunes.apple.com
And in Play - play.google.com
As you can see, the layout’s completely different as people on different platforms have different hardware and a different environment.

I think instagr.am should take some of this approach and put it into their app. Then I’ll reinstall it.
