Yeah, that’s right! First term of Uni for 2012 is complete!
Who’s ready for a break?

As you all know, I’m an EOS user.

But I went in to buy lenses the other day and the sales rep tried to convince me to switch to Sony (Alpha series), saying that overall it’s a better camera, with features such as AutoFocus, 1080p60 and onboard IS.

What do you think? And which do you use?

A year ago I switched from Telecom XT to 2degrees.
It mainly came down to the fact Telecom runs on 850MHz, and 2degrees on 900MHz. Telecom phones therefore end up being about $100 more expensive for the same features. My Sony Ericsson broke and I was due for a new Android - I gave their entry level Samsung i5503T a go, after 2 days of endless troubles and unhelpful customer service, picked up a similar model phone I had lying around and switched my number across to 2degrees.

Here’s what I found:

  1. Firstly - I lost the great “All 3G” Telecom XT experience, with 2degrees cutting in and out of 3G to switch back to 2G, then occasionally to Vodafone, and often to no reception. A year later - this isn’t much of an issue - but it was quite annoying to adjust to from a consistent XT network.
  2. Secondly - I had to understand the “Broadband Zones” with 2degrees. When you’re in the city - you can opt in and buy cheaper “Broadband” packs, but if you’re not in the zone, you have to buy “National Data”. Gaa, not worth the effort.
  3. Also - I’m saving so much money! The $19 Data combo - great deal!
  4. I have also tried roaming with 2degrees - absolutely no problems!
I had issues with both Telecom and Vodafone roaming - but that could’ve just been my handset.
  5. The “Auto Renewal” of packs etc got annoying with text alerts that didn’t make a lot of sense. Once I understood what they were trying to tell me, it didn’t really become a problem. But they should probably fix this up.

Hopefully 2degrees will have some answers to the above soon!

With Telecom CDMA shutting down soon, I’m recommending that anyone who needs to upgrade and doesn’t use their phone a lot - take a look at 2degrees. But if you’re a heavy user - check out something like TelMe to help you pick out your plan. And if you’re still not certain - call their 0800 numbers and see how you find the experience.

So, which Teleco are you with?

I’ve used the Developer Preview and Consumer Preview a couple of times and here are my first impressions

- Bring in the option to enable the START menu - there seems to be a lack of consistency

- I’d like to see more changes to the OS to make it worth the hundreds you’ll be charging us! Windows 7 was worth the jump from XP - let’s hope 8 won’t turn out like Vista.

Have you had a go yet?
